Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year!
To all my Dear family & friends, I apologize for the un-answered questions, letters and notes of love. We just, seven hours ago dropped off the last of our fellow Yippies at their departure destinations and started our much anticipated Christmas Break! We celebrated by taking a nap in the middle of the afternoon and I am now looking forward to a week of leisurely activity in which I will finally be able to reach out to each of you individually. I am so excited to catch up, so if there is a random long number or a blocked call, pick up!
It will be a Skype call from Sweden!
Become A Friend Of YIP
I am also writing to you, and you, and you to let you know that, The International Youth Initiative Program has re-launched their Friends Campaign for the 2013-2014 year. YIP is a Swedish Folk High School which is a public institution intended to be accessible to all. This makes it illegal to charge participants (such as myself) for costs that are not directly related to my living costs or materials. As a YIP participant I am only charged for Food, Lodging, Transport & Materials. Because of YIP's international participation this program does not comply for public government funding which means that YIP is dependent on external funding for Staff & Curriculum costs.
"If you become a Friend of YIP, you are helping YIP become a community supported education that is free to pursue learning unbiased by any institution outside the cultural realm."
why support YIP?
A huge part of what makes this program so impressive and beloved to me, is that eight members of our Organizing Team (the individuals that run the program and support and guide us Yippies) this year are YIP alumni, instead of the original founders who in the past years have taken on these roles. When I was informed of the changes that would be taking place this year, this one in specific spoke strongly to me. It said a lot about what this program has to offer if alumni felt moved enough by their previous participation to step up into these roles in order to make sure that YIP continued to exist for the current Yippies, such as myself. It said even more when we arrived and were informed that several current staff members are working here on half-pay or voluntarily.
I sit here sometimes and wonder at this. I wonder how I have been so lucky as to end up here, and even more so, in this year on the receiving end of this gift. It comes down to time and energy always, but beyond that there is a knowing. An understanding and a trust in that, this program has the ability to meet anyone and everyone, where ever they are, and that it is essential and relevant to this world today and tomorrow. The space that YIP creates must spread. So please help me carry this gift into the New Year and into a New World.
