Below is a favourite poem by someone that I love dearly. I tell it to myself in everyday moments, just like how I tell myself that I am lucky, purely because I am alive today in this world. Thijs, one of our YIP organizing members reminded us of this on our graduation day, and there was a part of me that just did not want to believe him. It would be easier not to believe. It would be easier just to get on with it, and not truly live each moment, each day.
It has been four weeks since I've entered the Big Blog Exchange. Four weeks since I dared myself to start a project that has been years in the making. Here is what I have learned. It is not about this contest, its about the people. Its about everyone near and far, dear or unknown that has sent their support. It is about each moment where my only task is to be an ear, to listen and to record. It is about receiving just as much as it is about sharing. One cannot be without the other.
I finally feel that I found a medium to express how I see the world, and how I see others. Sometimes when I doubt that we are so lucky, I get to hear a story and that is all I need to keep going. Today after listening to a story that left me with goosebumps and an ear to ear grin, I said out loud, "I don't have to go anywhere because its all happening here!" I think this is the first time that I have said this, and even more specifically here on Maui. I think this is the first time that I have realized that the grass is not greener in some other country and that the work I want to do, I have already started.
Today is a good start for all the rest because I'm ready.
Mahalo Nui Loa.
